During World War II, the Anti-Defamation League established organizations to create public campaigns to promote democratic principles and cooperation between all races, religions, and classes. One of its organizations, the Institute for American Democracy, distributed posters, blotters, bookmarks, book covers, and other materials well into the 1950s to try to counteract discrimination and foster tolerance in the United States.
