Artifact Overview
In the late 1990s Target attempted to distinguish themselves from other discount department stores by focusing on lines of proprietary domestic products from well-known designers. Architect Michael Graves was the first designer selected. Part of the "Nefertiti" line, this clock blends ancient Egyptian design elements with whimsical forms intending to appeal to a design-literate public that Target stores sought to court.
