Formed in Ohio as the Spartans in 1928, the Detroit Lions football team moved to the Motor City in 1934, where they took their new name in homage to the Detroit Tigers baseball team. The Lions earned four NFL championships between 1935 and 1957. The team went 6-6 in the 1950 season, winning as many games as they lost.
