Based in Detroit, Scripps Motor Company manufactured marine engines throughout the first half of the 20th century. Its models ranged from two- and four-cylinder units like this one to large 12-cylinder engines capable of powering luxury yachts. Scripps was one of several Michigan-based marine engine companies that helped make the Great Lakes State a center of the boat-building industry.
