- Ensemble, circa 1964 - Marguerite "Rita" Thornton (1900-1985) opened her eponymous Boston, Masschusetts boutique in 1946, which she owned and operated until its closure in the 1970s. In addition to selling garments, Thornton also designed her own line of clothing, which she sold in her shop, and made bespoke dresses for Boston's upper-class women.
